Summer Meals

    Summer Rural Delivery Meals Program

For the fourth summer the Steven A Hunter Hope Fund facilitated the Summer Rural Meals Delivery Program (formerly known as the Innovative Summer Meals Delivery Program) in Scioto County. Administered by the Ohio Association of Foodbanks and made possible through a partnership with Governor John R. Kasich, the Governor's Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives, the Ohio Department of Education, the Cincinnati FreeStore FoodBank, and locally,
the Steven A Hunter Hope Fund.      Last summer we partnered with local schools and other community groups, including a church and community volunteers.

Each week children in the program received 11 kid-friendly, shelf-stable meals. Over nine weeks last summer, we were able to distribute over 75,000 meals to more than 650 unduplicated hungry children through five different sites.  Those sites were the South Webster Pinkerman Community Church (Bloom-Vernon Local Schools), Minford Elementary (Minford Local Schools), Valley Elementary (Valley Local Schools), Green Elementary (Green Local Schools), & Portsmouth West Elementary (Washington-Nile Local Schools).

An additional Executive Order from Governor Kasich gave us access to the Mobile Farmer's Market Distribution which allowed us to distribute thousands of pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables at our sites.

The Steven A Hunter Hope Fund would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all of the volunteers who worked tirelessly last summer to make this program a reality.  Because of you, hundreds of local hungry children had food to eat last summer!
